Door County Top 15 List! Plus a bonus!!

So have you decided on your summer vacation yet?  No?  Well then keep reading because I have a list of my favorite places to visit in Door County!  From shopping and eating to relaxing on a beach, Door County has it all.
  1. Door Peninsula Winery and Door County Distillery in Carlsville – This is always our first official stop in Door County. At the Winery there are 46 award winning wines to sample, 5 micro brews to taste and enjoy and 18 different flavored olive oils and 15 balsamic vinegars to try. And then there’s the Door County fudge to drool over. And if that’s not enough walk across to the Distillery to do a taste test of their 3 vodkas, 2 brandies, Gin and Cherry Infusion. If you sample everything you’ll need a designated driver!
  2. Now if you haven’t had enough wine stop by Harbor Ridge Winery in Egg Harbor. Very cute wine shop with fabulous wines. My favorite is Carmen’s Last Dance and I call it “Summer in a wine bottle”! It’s perfect with lots of ice and a splash of Sprite to make your own wine cooler. If you stop by on a Tuesday or Thursday say hi to my friend Chris. And wine tasting available daily.
  3. Wisconsin Cheese Masters is right next door to Harbor Ridge. They have assembled a distinctive collection of their favorites from around the state. Almost none of these cheeses are available at even the finest cheese stores outside of Wisconsin. They offer only the finest products that Master, Artisan and Farmstead cheese makers in Wisconsin craft. Free samples are always available and they love to talk cheese!
  4. Wilson’s Ice Cream Shop in Ephraim – They have been around since 1906 so they know what they’re doing. Best ice cream around. Sit and enjoy the jukebox music or take your ice cream to go and walk across the street and wander around the marina and over to the beach.
  5. Ephraim Shoreline and Beach – probably the most picturesque of all the towns. And if you happen to be there in late September or early October when the leaves are in the height of their color driving around the bay area is absolutely gorgeous.
  6. Tannenbaum Holiday Shop in Sister Bay – I love Christmas and this store fuels my obsession with all things Christmas. So many unique items but not just for Christmas. My family loves to do Christmas and birthday shopping here and the staff is quite helpful if you are getting a gift for someone who happens to be shopping right next to you! They are more than happy to “hide” some of your purchases from your mom or sister as they ring up your order :-).
  7. Cooper’s Corner in Fish Creek – after all your shopping and wine tasting you need a great restaurant to sit and enjoy a wonderful meal. Great location and stunning new building. Enjoy a glass of wine with lunch or dinner and enjoy the summer breeze in their open air upper loft.
  8. Sisters’ Sweets in Fish Creek – located below the Whistling Swan is this cute little store selling handmade candies and fudge along with Faith based gift items. My personal favorite is the mint fudge dipped in dark chocolate – oh my goodness!
  9. Finding Eden in Fish Creek – this is a brand new store right across from Sisters’ Sweets. Lisa has hand made jewelry, pillows and hair accessories. She also has some unique artwork that her sister does for the store. All pieces are unique and you never know what you might find. Stop in and take a look around.
  10. Wood Orchard Market in Egg Harbor – During the winter they have added on to their building and now are able to offer even more fun goodies to eat and lovely home decorations and gifts. There are several markets in Door County but this one is my favorite. The apple cider dough nuts and the Italian Garlic bread are my top favorites.
  11. City Farmer in Ephraim is my favorite red barn! Lots of fun to wonder around each small “room” and see what treasure awaits you. I always find something to purchase for my home or for a gift here and the prices are reasonable.
  12. Hands on Art Studio in Fish Creek – This one is on my to do list! You can do ceramics, painting, pottery, metal work, mosaics and so much more. FRIDAY EVENINGS ARE RESERVED FOR ADULTS 21 AND OLDER FROM 6:30-10PM. ALL THE STUDIO SPACES ARE OPEN AND YOU CAN BRING YOUR OWN EATS AND BEVERAGES TO ENJOY.
  13. Connie Glowacki in Fish Creek – Connie is a delightful woman who has her gallery of artwork in one of the Top of Hill Shoppes.  She loves to talk to visitors  and show them around to discuss her different paintings.  Stop in and enjoy her beautify (mostly local) landscapes.
  14. Newport Resort in Egg Harbor – Great place to stay.  When I’m in the Door for a long weekend this is usually where I stay.  They have all the amenities (indoor & outdoor pools, hot tub, one or two bedroom suites) they most people are wanting.
  15. for longer stays or if you are looking for a cottage or larger home for multiple people. This is the website I used to find my cottage but I’m keeping it’s exact location and VRBO number my little secret!

BONUS – my favorites for Sturgeon Bay!  Not many people stop to shop/eat in Sturgeon Bay. Instead they skip right past as they hurry on to other areas of Door County.  I had quite a bit of time to explore while I was up there this last time and here just a few of my NEW favs.

  1. 136 Restaurant and Wine Bar – My cousin, Sharon, opened this wonderful, casual restaurant in February and she has done a superb job.  Relaxed, elegant styled interior with a unique and flavorful menu. Sit back and enjoy a glass of wine with dinner or lunch.
  2. Brick Alley – Across the street from 136, Brick Alley has a very large selection of home and gift items.
  3. Blue Front Cafe – Yummy!  Great sandwiches and soups with a full dinner menu.
Now this is just a sampling of everything that is available in Door County.  There are so many more shops and restaurants along with parks for hiking, canoeing, and camping.  There’s golfing, art galleries, lighthouses to explore and outdoor theater to experience.  Visit for a full selection.
