25 Days of Christmas Calendar

25 days of Christmas

Today is the first day of December!!! You know what that means, right?! 25 days until Christmas! The last few years I have done a countdown to Christmas with my kids. Last year I even made an elaborate printed out calendar with activities for each day. I must say it was an adorable calendar, but it was a lot of work. Plus we could only use it for one year. So this year I decided to make a countdown calendar that was reusable for each year to come. (And I think I could even use it all year round, to hang photos or notes on it!)

I went to my local Hobby Lobby and got all the supplies I needed. I bought an open frame (the opening on my frame is 13 , thread, clips, round tags, and number stickers. Everything I bought happen to be 50% off!! How awesome is that?! I paid about $20 for everything I needed to make this calendar. And what I love it that I can keep reusing it every year. All I need to do is buy the tags and stickers every year.

I started by cutting 3 red threads to go across the back of the frame horizontally. I used a staple gun to secure them in place.  I added 25 clips. I LOVE these clips! They are super festive, with red rhinestones!

Next I added numbers (stickers) to the tags for the countdown. You could write the numbers as well.

Then on each day I added an activity that we plan to do that day. I plan activities based on our schedule for that day. With that being said, some times our schedule changes and I move the activities around. I plan easier things like reading a Christmas book or watching a Christmas movie on busy nights. There are a lot of printable Christmas activities/Advent activities available online. You could easily use one of them, print and cut them out for the calendar.

Then all you have to do is add the tags to your frame, and hang it up where you will see it every day! We check ours every morning when we get up. The kids love to see what activity they get to do that day.

Here are some of the activities we chose from for our Christmas Countdown:

  • Decorate kids rooms and Christmas trees
  • Write letters to Santa
  • Bake Christmas Cookies
  • Make Christmas pictures for Grandparents
  • Decorate Christmas Tree
  • Christmas Breakfast
  • Make a Christmas craft
  • Make paper snowflakes

  1. I love this idea! It can be as personal or as generic as you would like. I it can be changed from year to year. I may have my kids create it from things we have around the house and have them decorate clothes pins themselves!
